The Russian Hobbit

Smeagol/Gollum

I think all of you have already known, heard, or saw the movie called ‘The Hobbit’.
It seems like Russians made a move called ‘Hobbit’ back in 1985. If you know Russian language well, then you are okay because it has no subtitles.
Here’s the movie:

I’ll come clear with you; I still haven’t seen the new Hobbit movie. I was super-busy faffing around. It still hasn’t come to my hometown and probably never will OR, for about one quid, we’ll get to watch a scratched and worn out movie with a rattling sound of old projector in the background. Vintage, huh?
To be honest, it’s been quite a long time since I went out to watch movies at my local cinema (or cultural house to be precise). Maybe the quality has improved but who knows.

Great Scenes from Old Soviet Sci-Fi Movies

This is my favorite video and I love the colors of  it. It's a short episode of 1959 movie which is called "Nebo Zovyot" (the heavens call). I think they did very great job for making these special effects.

This one is ahead of its time. This film is called Ikarie XB 1 (aka Ikaria XB1, Icarus XB1 and Voyage to the End of the Universe) and it is Czechoslovakia's first science fiction film. This 1963 movie tells the story of Starship Ikaria XB 1's 2163 trek to Alpha Centari. ("Voyage" was the savagely cut, English dubbed version released by American International Pictures.)

I love those old sci-fi movies. It is so exciting to see how people imagined the future. Watching these kind of movies, make me feel the spirit of those years when people were obsessed with space travel and ideas of futuristic life in space age.

That's all from me.

THE most interesting thing in my drawer

Of all that stuff I have in my messy drawer, the most interesting thing I like is shown on the picture below. These are the last two frames of an old soviet movie. On the left side you can see the sound which would be heard on the movie. The subtitles say: "You are beautiful, too!". I keep this thing in one special place of my drawer.

Nosferatu - an old horror movie

I absolutely love this silent movie. It's scary to me, actually. These days horror movies are about to scare you with looks, then old movies scare you psychologically.
At this point, old movies are much better and worth watching.
Hope you'll enjoy this movie as I did.

Cheers!

a movie which rocked my pants

I watched a lot of movies this Summer, but one movie was really amazing. Like I said before, it rocked my pants and made me laugh. This movie was directed by Stainley Kubrick in 1964 and it's called "Doctor Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb".

It's a must-see movie with gripping plot, interesting and eccentric characters, etc. After seeing this this movie I thought that it's probably the best ever made movie. It's not fair that such an amazing movie didn't win much awards...

If you're interested, here's a little bit about the movie:
"U.S. Air Force General Jack Ripper goes completely and utterly mad, and sends his bomber wing to destroy the U.S.S.R. He suspects that the communists are conspiring to pollute the "precious bodily fluids" of the American people. The U.S. president meets with his advisors, where the Soviet ambassador tells him that if the U.S.S.R. is hit by nuclear weapons, it will trigger a "Doomsday Machine" which will destroy all plant and animal life on Earth. Peter Sellers portrays the three men who might avert this tragedy: British Group Captain Lionel Mandrake, the only person with access to the demented Gen. Ripper; U.S. President Merkin Muffley, whose best attempts to divert disaster depend on placating a drunken Soviet Premier and the former Nazi genius Dr. Strangelove, who concludes that "such a device would not be a practical deterrent for reasons which at this moment must be all too obvious". Will the bombers be stopped in time, or will General Jack Ripper succeed in destroying the world?" (a quote from imdb.com)

...and there's the trailer:

OK, another interesting thing is.... that one Muse videoclip called "Time is Running out" have a lot of similarities with the "war room" from the film. Also, the lyrics from the song's chorus fits the movie perfectly.

"Our time is running out
Our time is running out
You can't push it underground
You can't stop it screaming out..."
